Fire and police department personnel yesterday recovered the body of a woman below Pali Highway, officials said.
A rescue company rappelled down the slopes on the Kailua side of the Pali tunnels and recovered the body about 9 a.m., said Capt. Terry Seelig, Fire Department spokesman.
No foul play is suspected, officials said. The Honolulu medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.
Officials were trying to determine if the body is that of a missing Kane'ohe woman, Paula Marie Iverson, 52, who was last seen Friday at 12:45 p.m. walking on the highway toward the Pali Lookout, police said.
A police news release said she was reportedly emotionally distraught.
HOTEL WORKER CHARGED IN ASSAULT
Big Island police yesterday charged a hotel employee with sexually assaulting a hotel guest.
Corpus Taracena, 37, of Kailua, Kona, was charged at 8:15 a.m. with kidnapping, first-degree sex assault and attempted first-degree sex assault.
Taracena was being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.
Kona police credited the security staff at the unspecified hotel with distracting Taracena during the alleged attack and allowing the victim to escape.
Police did not release any other information on the incident.
CATCH THIS YEAR'S BIGGEST FULL MOON
This week's full moon will be the widest and brightest full moon of 2007.
Carolyn Kaichi, manager of the Bishop Museum Planetarium, said in a news release that some full moons are larger than others, and that tomorrow night's will be as much as 14 percent wider and 30 percent brighter than lesser full moons we've seen earlier this year.
The moon's orbit is an ellipse with one side 30,000 miles closer to Earth than the other. The full moon of this month is on the near side — called perigee — making it appear bigger and brighter.
