Pacific Beach Corp. yesterday said it is continuing to evaluate how many current employees it will rehire when it takes over management of its namesake Waikiki hotel in December, but it said it has sent out about 400 offer letters to staffers.
The announcement came as a dozen or more employees dressed in Halloween attire and marched outside the hotel, asking the new management company to rehire all of the 450 workers. The workers also said they are seeking a fair contract with the company.
A spokesman for the the company said it may send out more offer letters and said it is possible that some current workers may not receive the offers. It said some employees haven't applied for positions or haven't responded to the company.
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 142 said about 85 workers haven't received job offers. It said about a half dozen of those who have gotten the letters are being offered either lower-paying positions, part-time work or on-call status. Dave Mori, Local 142 O'ahu division director, said workers are still waiting to learn what kind of benefits Pacific Beach will pay when it takes over management of the hotel Dec. 1.
