13th ANNUAL HULA FESTIVAL FOR PRINCESS KA'IULANI: The Sheraton Princess Ka'iulani hosts a week of events Oct. 14-19 to honor the legacy and birthday of Princess Victoria Ka'iulani. "Hana Hoohiwahiwa O Ka'iulani (to celebrate and honor Ka'iulani) offers free daily cultural activities including hula lessons, lei-making, 'ukulele lessons, wood-crafting and lauhala basket-weaving to the public. The weeklong celebration closes with the Princess Ka'iulani Keiki Hula Festival in the Ainahau Showroom. More than 200 children ages 5-12 from O'ahu halau will perform in this 13-year-old Waikiki tradition.

BIG ISLAND PAINTERS: The West Hawai'i Plein Air Painters will exhibit their work at Parker Ranch's Pu'uopelu Gallery in Waimea (Kamuela). Subject matter ranges from studio painted portraits and still lifes to scenes around Waimea and the West Hawai'i coastline.
Artists meet on Friday mornings at different locations to paint outside ("plein air") and critique each other's work. Painters work in a variety of media including watercolors, oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolor pencils, ink, etc. and cover a wide range of experience levels. New people are welcome. The exhibition is through Oct. 30. A Meet the Artists reception with refreshments is 3-6 p.m. Oct. 6. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
KAUA'I CELEBRATION: As part of the annual Kaua'i Mokihana Festival, ResortQuest Kauai Beach at Makaiwa presents "Under the Palms at Makaiwa," celebrating Hawaiian culture through hula, music, arts and crafts.
