The Philadelphia Eagles signed veteran tackle Kimo von Oelhoffen, a Moloka'i High graduate, yesterday to a one-year contract, a day after he was released by the New York Jets.

"I'm familiar with some of the guys," von Oelhoffen said in a story on the Eagles' Web site. "I'll add a little bit of experience, technique, I will work hard and help the young guys a little bit and maybe they will help me a little bit.

"I will help in any way I can. Football is football."

The 6-foot-4, 299-pound von Oelhoffen, a 14-year NFL veteran, is from Kaunakakai. He has played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers and Jets.

He began his career at the University of Hawai'i in 1990, but transferred to Walla Walla (Wash.) J.C. in 1991, and then to Boise State in 1992.

The Eagles placed defensive tackle Ian Scott on the minor injured reserved list with a knee injury.
