"BROKEN TRUST" DISCUSSION: Senior U.S. District Judge Samuel P. King and Randall Roth, co-authors of the landmark publication "Broken Trust: Greed, Mismanagement & Political Manipulation at America's Largest Charitable Trust," will speak to a Young Business Council Leadership Series this month. AQUACULTURE DISCUSSION: Hawai'i's emerging position as a national leader in open-ocean aquaculture will be the topic of a panel discussion Sept. 20 by the Hawai'i Society of Corporate Planners. Panel participants will include:

  • Gary Karr, head of Oceanic Institutes' Education and Training Department.

  • Randy Cates, of Cates International, who, in 2007, partnered with Steve Case to form Hukilau Foods, which is constructing Hawai'i's largest commercial fish hatchery and expanding an existing offshore fish farm.

  • Dr. Charles Laidley, program manager of Oceanic Institute's Finfish Program, developing ornamental and marine food fish species.

  • Dr. Shaun Moss, manager of the Institute's Shrimp Program, will discuss "Advanced Technologies for a Global Shrimp Farming Industry," including recent developments of a super-intensive shrimp production system.

    The HSCP program, "The One That Didn't Get Away: Hawai'i's Emerging Fish Farms," is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. sign-in to 1:30 p.m., at the Hawai'i Prince Hotel Waikiki, Mauna Kea Ballroom.
