The Hawai'i Tourism Authority in partnership with the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement will offer a series of statewide orientation and training workshops on obtaining funding from the HTA Living Hawaiian Culture PrograM. The program provides funding support to eligible organizations with projects that strengthen, support and nurture the Hawaiian culture and community. More than $500,000 has been awarded to 19 grantees for 2007. The annual shareholders meeting of HAWAIIAN TAX-FREE TRUST is scheduled at 10 a.m. at the Ala Moana Hotel, Hibiscus Room. The trust is a mutual fund, launched in 1985, for the benefit of Hawai'i residents. It invests primarily in tax-free municipal bond obligations of Hawai'i issuers, such as schools, highways, hospitals, and water and sewer facilities. As of June 30, 2007, Hawaiian Tax-Free Trust's assets totaled more than $689 million, while its shareholder base exceeds 11,200. At the meeting, shareholders will meet trustees, officers and portfolio managers; vote on the board; review the local economy and the investment portfolio, and have questions answered. Rodney Moriyama, who, as assistant superintendent of the state Department of Education, Office of Information Technology, is responsible for IT in the ninth largest U.S. education jurisdiction of about 35,000 employees will speak next week to the HAWAI'I TELECOMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATION. Moriyama's experience also includes posts as vice president and chief information officer for The Queen's Health Systems, and, before that, as a 20-year veteran of IBM.
