  • The Hawaii Venture Capital Association will host a panel discussion on how to deal with intellectual property, including patents, trademarks and copyrights, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the The Plaza Club in Honolulu. The panelists will include: Leighton Chong, an intellectual property and patent attorney; Martin Hsia, who practices patent, trademark and copyright law at Cades Schutte; and M. Sharon Webb, who is a registered patent attorney. The cost is $29 for HVCA, Hawaii Angels, DualUse Council, Bytemarks and HSTC members and $39 for nonmembers. Register at www.hvca.org.

  • More financial control in money-making decisions — with "enough" money at the end of the month — will be the focus of a meeting of the PROFESSIONAL WOMEN'S NETWORK Sept. 27 at the Ala Moana Hotel, 'Ilima Room. Speaking on "Mind Over Money: How to Have a Better Relationship With Your Cash!" will be certified leadership and financial coach Anita Kirkman.   • The Office of Economic Development and the Maui Film Office will hold a discussion of the incentives and tax credits for the local film industry at 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Iao Theatre in Wailuku. Donne Dawson, Hawai'i state film commissioner, and Joseph B. Tichy, administrative specialist for the state Department of Taxation, will explain the nuts and bolts of Act 88, the Motion Picture Digital Media and Film Production Tax Credit, and Act 221/215, the High Technology Business Investment Tax Credit. The discussion will be moderated by Benita Brazier, Maui film commissioner. The seminar is the first in a fall series to be presented by the Maui Film Office. Subsequent seminars will include discussions on the Screen Actors Guild, film financing, film distribution and producing. This event is free of charge.
