Two people were killed early yesterday morning in a head-on car crash on the Big Island.
Police said Randy W. Ahuna of Kamuela and Charlotte L. Paris of Kealakekua died in the crash, which was reported at 12:08 a.m. yesterday.
It happened near the four-mile marker on Route 190. Police said Ahuna was driving a Dodge pickup truck in the Waimea direction when he crossed the centerline and collided with Paris' 2005 Subaru, which was heading in the Kona direction.
Ahuna was pronounced dead at North Hawai'i Community Hospital at 1:25 a.m.
Paris died at the scene, police said. She was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital at 3:50 a.m.
Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors, but said "driver fatigue" may have played a role. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Police have opened a negligent homicide investigation and ordered autopsies.
