Five gymnasts from Hawai'i earned spots on the U.S. National Team to compete in the World Championships and the World Age Group Competitions for Trampoline.

Matt Moniz, Spencer Dupio, Nani Vercruyssen, Spencer Madanay and Kelsen Onigama were selected after the Stars and Stripes Cup and World Age Group Competitions Trial 2 in Birmingham, Ala., that ended Sept. 16.

The world events will be in Quebec City in November.

Moniz, a freshman at Leeward Community College, finished fifth in the double mini trampoline at the Stars and Stripes Cup, and is an alternate for the world championships.

Dupio, a junior at Roosevelt High, was invited to compete in the World Age Group Competitions in the trampoline and double mini trampoline. Dupio broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot in June, but has been cleared to compete in November.

Vercruyssen, a sophomore at Roosevelt High, won the trampoline, double mini trampoline and synchronized trampoline in the World Age Group Competitions Trial 2 and will compete in all three events in November.

Madanay, an eighth-grader at Punahou School, qualified with Onigama in the synchronized trampoline at the Trial 2 event, earning both spots on the national squad.

Onigama, a seventh-grader at Kalakaua Intermediate School, was first on the trampoline and double mini trampoline to earn a spot on the national team.
