"Lost" producers JJ Abrams, right, and Lawrence Bender are two of the celebs on the advisory board of the latest save-the-world-through-art-and-parties project: Pangea Day. (Others run from Black Eyed Pea will.i.am to French designer Philippe Starck.) Initiated by Arab-American filmmaker Jehane Noujaim, Pangea Day is slated for next May 10, when sites in Cairo; Dharamsala, India (home to the Dalai Lama); Jerusalem; Kigali, Rwanda; London and New York City will be video-conferenced to produce a four-hour program that will be broadcast live to "promote a better understanding of our common humanity." You'll be able to watch the speakers and performers on TV, online and on cell phones. All you Showdown in Chinatown veterans: Noujaim is looking for short films for the event. EARLY CHRISTMAS 'TOAST'
Design duo Jeremy Shoda and Michelle Kaneko met 10 years ago working at Iida's in Ala Moana Center. The erstwhile architecture students have since cut their teeth in event planning, and now, product design. Shop Toast, their line of quirky handmade gifts, is available at Queens Candy Shop (831 Queen St., 589-1102) and www.shoptoast.com. Their Holiday 2007 gift sets are perfect for imparting seasonal cheer to unsuspecting co-workers, employees and loved ones. Funky faux fruits hide a candy cache and soda bottles, above, come filled with iso peanuts and arare. Because, face it, fruit baskets are so last year.
