PORTLAND, Ore. — Two Portland State basketball players have been detained in Mexico after an incident in Cabo San Lucas, according to the university.

The Oregonian newspaper reported on its Web site that guard Jeremiah Dominguez and center Scott Morrison were arrested outside a nightclub Sunday.

"We are surprised and disappointed in the actions and poor judgment our student athletes have shown in this situation," athletic director Torre Chisolm said in a statement. "I am disheartened to see them put themselves in such a bad position."

The Oregonian reported 23-year-old Kyle Meagher of Michigan, a student at Lansing Community College, suffered a broken jaw Saturday.

"We are awaiting reliable information, and we will respond appropriately once we have confirmed information regarding the charges," sports information director Mike Lund said in a release.

Further details were not immediately available.

Dominguez and Morrison played on the Vikings team that went a school-record 23-10, winning the Big Sky conference tournament to earn its first ever trip to the NCAA tournament. A No. 16 seed, Portland State lost to top-seeded Kansas in a first-round game.

"It just amazes me that those guys are involved," Vikings coach Ken Bone told the Oregonian from San Antonio, Texas. "I'm anxious to find out what exactly took place, but even at this point I'm pretty disappointed. Even if it's just rumors, I'm pretty disappointed."

Dominguez, the Big Sky's player of the year, averaged 14.2 points and 4.1 assists per game. Morrison, the league's defensive player of the year, averaged 10.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.
