Jon Hee drove in three runs, including the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth on his second sacrifice fly of the game, to lift Hawai'i over No. 13 Stanford, 5-2, tonight at Sunken Diamond in Stanford, Calif.
The Rainbows (10-19) ended a six-game losing streak and beat their first nationally ranked team of the season after going 0-9 against top 25 teams. The Cardinal (13-8) had a modest three-game win streak snapped.
In the top of the ninth, Sean Montplaisir singled with one out and took third on a hit-and-run ground single to left by Derek DuPree. Monplaisir scored on Hee's sacrifice fly to center to give UH a 3-2 lead. DuPree stole second and Brandon Haislet walked. Jeff Van Doornum followed with a single up the middle to score DuPree and move Haislet to second. Alex Pracher was lifted for Brandt Walker, whose wild pitch advanced the runners. Kevin Macdonald reached on a throwing error by the third baseman that allowed a run to score and the other runner to take third to make it 5-2.
Pracher (0-1) gave up three runs (two earned) in two-thirds of an inning.
Jayson Kramer (1-1), who inherited a no-out situation with a runner on third in the eighth and stranded him there, retired all six batters he faced.
The Cardinal took a 1-0 lead in the second. Randy Molina and Sean Ratliff hit back-to-back singles and pinch hitter Austin Yount walked to load the bases. Colin Walsh grounded to second for a double play that scored Molina.
The Rainbows tied it in the third against Cory Bannister. Greg Garcia led off with a single and going on the pitch, took second when Montplaisir grounded out to shortstop. After DuPree flied out to center, Garcia scored on Hee's single to left to tie the game at 1.
But the Cardinal regained the lead in the fourth against Cory Kahn on one out, back-to-back doubles by Molina and Rafliff to make it 2-1.
Hawai'i tied it in the seventh. Garcia singled with one out and took second on Montplaisir's single. Mike Marshall was pulled for Drew Storen, who hit DuPree to load the bases to set up Hee's sacrifice fly to left to make it 2-2.
