A Lahaina man was killed early today when his motorcycle struck a guard rail in Maui, police said.
The man was riding a black, 1991 Honda Shadow motorcycle on Waiehua Beach Road near Ukali Street when it ran onto the makai shoulder and hit the rail, police said.
The driver, who was alone on the bike and not wearing a helmet, died at the scene about 1:30 a.m., according to Maui police.
It was the sixth traffic death of the year on Maui, compared with four at the same time last year.
