One of the strongest earthquakes of the year shook the area near Vanuatu in the South Pacific about 2:46 a.m. today Hawai'i time.

There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries cause by the magnitude-7.5 quake in the Loyalty islands area, and no tsunami warning was issued.
