Hilo evacuation shelter closes

The Red Cross closed the evacuation shelter in Hilo at 8:30 this morning after six people slept in it last night to avoid high sulfur dioxide emissions from Kilauea.
The shelter opened at 6:30 Tuesday morning and was staffed by a team of Red Cross volunteers.
Red Cross volunteers continue to be on alert in the event shifting winds again prompt a evacuation advisory by the Department of Health and Hawai'i County Civil Defense.
