Swim: Coventry sets women's world mark in 200m backstroke
MANCHESTER, England — Kirsty Coventry has set a world record in the women's 200-meter backstroke at the short-course swimming world championships.
The Zimbabwean swimmer finished in 2 minutes, 0.91 seconds today.
Elizabeth Simmonds of Britain also finished ahead of the previous record with a second-place finish in 2:02.60.
Reiko Nakamura of Japan had set the previous mark of 2:03.24 in February.
