No need to boil water central, south Maui residents told

Advertiser Staff

The Maui Department of Water Supply today canceled its advisory to Central and South Maui residents and businesses to boil water as a precautionary measure.

The affected areas included Kahului, Spreckelsville, Pa,ia, Kuau, Wailuku Heights, Waikapu, Kihei and Wailea. After further investigation and exposure of the 24-inch waterline in Happy Valley, it was determined that the broken line was not a potable waterline and did not affect drinking water supplies. Customers are no longer recommended to boil water before consumption.

"The Department of Water Supply would like to thank its customers for taking last night's advisory seriously," said Water Director Jeff Eng. "Our department's first priority is always the health and safety of our customers, and in situations like this, we err on the side of caution."
