Volleyball Warriors upset No. 5 Pepperdine in season finale

The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team won't be playing in the postseason for the first time since 1993, but found a way to end its season on positive note.
The 13th-ranked Warriors upset No. 5 Pepperdine, 30-26, 30-23, 26-30, 23-30, 15-13 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match tonight at Malibu, Calif.
Hawai'i finished 11-16 overall and 8-14 in the MPSF. Pepperdine is 13-10 and 12-10.
Joshua Walker led the Warriors with 18 kills followed by senior Jacob Schkud who had 17
Sean Carney added a career-high 15 kills.
In the fifth game, UH used a Pepperdine attack error and a Schkud kill to take a 14-12 lead. After J.D. Schleppenbach's kill made it 14-14, Walker's kill gave UH the match, ending the Warriors' five-game losing streak.
Paul Carroll led Pepperdine with a match-high 27 kills.
The top eight teams in the MPSF will play the postseason tournament starting next week.
