Principals tapped for Tokioka award

Island Insurance Foundation recently recognized 11 public school principals nominated for the Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award.
The award is in honor of the late Masayuki Tokioka, founder of Island Insurance Co. Ltd.
Nominees received a $1,000 cash award and commemorative plaque.
Principals nominated for the award were: John Brummel, Mililani High School; Michael Harano, Washington Middle School; Gregg Lee, Stevenson Middle School; Meredith Maeda, Castle High School; Amy Martinson, Highlands Intermediate School; and Myron Monte, Dole Middle School.
Also nominated were Wilfred Murakami, Kealakehe Middle School; Annette Nishikawa, Kapolei Middle School; Linda Puleloa, Moloka'i High School; Caroline Wong, Moanalua Middle School; and Gilmore Youn, Kapa'a High School.
One of the principals will receive $25,000 — a $10,000 cash award and $15,000 toward a school project designated by the principal. Two semifinalists each will receive $2,000 cash.
The winner and semifinalists will be selected and announced at the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation Dinner on May 21.
