Ishii fires 67 for one-stroke lead in Mid-Pacific Open

Hawai'i Golf Hall of Famer David Ishii shot a 5-under-par 67 yesterday to take a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the 50th Mid-Pacific Open at the Mid-Pacific Country Club course.
Tadd Fujikawa, a 17-year-old pro who is a junior at Moanalua High, is alone in second at 68.
Bradley Shigezawa, a 16-year-old Punahou School sophomore, shot 3-under 69 to share third with Kevin Shimomura.
Alika Bell, a 16-year-old Kamehameha Schools sophomore, is tied for fifth at 70 with Tommy Kim, John Lynch and Beau Yokomoto.
Defending champion Darren Summers shares ninth with seven others at 71.
Punahou senior Stephanie Kono shot 4-over 76 and Buffanblu junior Anna Jang shot 77. They are the first females to play in the tournament.
The professionals are competing for a first-place check of $13,500 in the $64,000 tournament, which drew a record 250 entries.
The second round of the 72-hole tournament tees off today at 6:30 a.m.
