Soccer: Donovan, Beckham help Galaxy tie Dynamo

CARSON, Calif. — Landon Donovan scored a pair of goals on pinpoint passes from David Beckham to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-2 tie with the Houston Dynamo tonight.

Donovan made a sliding shot in the 84th minute to even it. His earlier goal, on a diving header in the 67th minute, had tied it 1-1.

Franco Caraccio had a goal and an assist for the two-time defending MLS champion Dynamo (0-1-3), still looking for their first win of the season. Caaraccio gave Houston a 2-1 lead in the 78th minute when he kicked in a rebound of Brian Ching's shot that bounced off the crossbar.

Donovan's second goal, his fifth of the season, came when Beckham dribbled down the right side of the box, rolled the ball across to him near the left post, and he got his foot on it to beat goalie Tony Caig.

Beckham set up Donovan's score in the 67th minute with a perfect cross from the right wing. Beckham sent the ball low and close to the goal line and Donovan, battling with defender Patrick Ianni, got his head just in front and struck the ball solidly inside the right post.

Beckham has a goal and three assists for Los Angeles (1-2-1).

Houston's Brad Davis opened the scoring when he finished off a pinball-like play involving four Dynamo players in the 36th minute.

Brian Mullen made a crossing pass from the right side, Caraccio's header bounced in the box, Ching ticked the ball as he missed a volley try, leaving the ball in front of Davis and he quickly banged it into the back of the net.
