Burma, Tibet vigil planned

A nondenominational vigil for Burma and Tibet is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. April 27 on the 'ewa side of Magic Island.

There will be silent meditation and chants for peace, as well as updates and music from the local Burmese and Tibetan communities. The event is being co-sponsored by Buddhist Peace Fellowship, Hawai'i Campaign for Burma (Myanmar) and The Interfaith Alliance Hawai'i.

LANTERN FESTIVAL SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are needed to make lanterns for the annual Memorial Day Lantern Floating festival at Ala Moana Beach.

The ceremony is a cross-cultural event to honor those who died in war and pay respect to loved ones who have passed away.

This month, volunteers are needed for preparations, and others will be needed on the day of the event for transportation, cleanup and recycling.

The Lantern Floating Hawaii is officiated by the Shinnyo-en.

FILM EXAMINES DOMESTIC ABUSE

"Hiding in Plain Sight," a documentary about domestic violence, will screen at 7 p.m. today at Unity Church of Hawaii's chapel, 3608 Diamond Head Circle at Monsarrat Avenue.

The film was produced by The Domestic Violence Action Center. The screening is free.
