Police looking for witnesses to assault in Hilo

Hawaii County police are looking for witnesses to an assault at Leleiwi Beach Park in Hilo on Monday.

A 60-year-old Hilo man reported that while he was cutting grass near the three-pavilion parking lot near the pond area between noon and 1 p.m., he was confronted by a man who threw a stick and rocks at him and then initiated a fight.

The suspect is described as about 40 years old, around 5-foot-11, approximately 240 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He had tattoos on both arms.

Police ask anyone witnesses to the assault to call Officer Aaron Loges at 961-8851 or the Police Department's non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
