The Hawai`i County Council voted 7-2 Tuesday to override Mayor Kim's veto of Bill 224, making Big Island beaches and parks smoke-free.
"I commend the Council for taking strong action to protect the environment as well as the health of the people of Hawai'i," said Suzanne Frazer, co-chair of Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawai'i. "I hope that other islands follow this example and make their beaches smoke-free."
