Mäkaha Sons' 'Walk' will be at The Waterfront
By Wayne Harada
The Makaha Sons' annual "Take a Walk in the Country 6," the summertime music-with-hula spectacle, will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 7 at The Waterfront at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
The event, previously at the larger Waikiki Shell, is opting for the harborfront venue for the first time, meaning reduced seating — limited to 800 to 1,000.
So instead of picnicking on the grass, while watching Louis "Moon" Kauakahi, John Koko and Jerome Koko serenade, the event will feature a gourmet buffet dinner catered by Chai's Island Bistro, with VIP service from 5:30 p.m. Reserved seating is available, along with general admission.
The program will feature a lineup yet to be named, but the Hawaiiana segments will feature Kealo Koko, Halau Hula 'O Hokulani, Halau Hula 'O Kawaili'ula, Ka Leo 'O Laka I Kahikina O Ka La, and Puka'ikapuaokalani Hula Halau. Among the guest artists: Hawaiian Connection, a trio comprised of Barry Kimokeo, Bernard Kalua and Alika Odom.
Advance tickets, available starting Monday: $150 VIP (includes dinner and reserved seating), $75 reserved, $30 general (admission closer to the event, if space remains: $200, $100, $50).
Reservations: 282-3303, www.makahasons.com.
