Hilo boy places third in national Catholic contest

An 11-year-old Big Island boy garnered third-place honors in a national Catholic competition which tries to encourage children to utilize their creative skills to illustrate a different faith-based theme.
Joseph Bayola of Hilo's St. Joseph Elementary School competed in the fifth-grade division of the "Try Prayer! It Works" contest sponsored by Family Rosary of Holy Cross Family Ministries. He submitted prose and artwork depicting St. Joseph as the patron saint of workers who inspires him to work harder.
