Baseball: Orioles put LHP Loewen on DL with sore elbow

CHICAGO — The Baltimore Orioles put left-hander starter Adam Loewen on the 15-day disabled list today because of a sore elbow.
The Orioles purchased the contract of infielder Eider Torres from Triple-A Norfolk.
Loewen, who made just six starts last season because of a stress fracture in his left elbow, is 0-1 with a 7.85 ERA in four starts this year. He lasted only 2 2-3 innings Thursday against Seattle and allowed five runs and four hits.
After the game, Loewen told Baltimore manager Dave Trembley that he had soreness in his left forearm.
Torres, who is looking to make his major league debut, was hitting .338 in 18 games for Norfolk.
