Roderick Flemings, a highly touted junior college player, said today he will play for the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team.
"I'm heading to Hawai'i," Flemings said. "I really feel like I can change the program around and help get the team to the (NCAA) Tournament."
Flemings, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward, chose the Rainbow Warriors over Kentucky.
"It was so difficult," he said of the decision. "But I feel like Hawai'i is the place for me."
Flemings said he turned down a scheduled visit to Kentucky this weekend, and signed his official letter of intent with Hawai'i today.
Flemings averaged 20.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.6 blocked shots per game last season as a sophomore at Weatherford (Texas) College. He was one of 10 players selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association's All-America first team.
He will be a junior at UH in the 2008-09 season.
