The skies above O'ahu may appear hazy because of Kilauea's volcanic emissions, but sulfur dioxide has not caused air-quality problems on O'ahu, according to the state Department of Health.
Generally, the volcanic emissions have not created a health problem outside of the Big Island. However, on Friday, the Maui District Health Office issued an advisory urging individuals with respiratory conditions to take precautions, although the state health department said there was no indication of a significant threat to health.
"For the general population, it's not a problem," said health department spokeswoman Janice Okubo.
