HONOLULU – At its monthly meeting held Thursday at Leeward Community College, the University of Hawaii Board of Regents voted to accept two multi-million dollar donations.

A $3 million gift from Barry and Virginia Weinman will establish a Dean's Chair in Medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine.

The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation's $5 million gift will support the construction of the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head, an advanced culinary training facility.

A news conference will be held Aug. 8 at the medical school to celebrate the Barry and Virginia Weinman gift and discuss its impact on Hawai'i's healthcare challenges.

A separate news conference is planned for Thursday at the Hawaii Convention Center to share the details of the $5 million gift from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. The donation brings the UH Foundation to the halfway point in their fundraising goal for private contributions for the project.
