If the lime-green walls could speak at Stylus, they'd have three years of stories to tell.
The shop, dedicated to music and clothing, is packed with new and used clothing, bins of CDs and vinyl records, fliers for the latest parties and random items for sale, such as "Rap Snacks" — potato chips named after rap stars.
Since summer 2005, Stylus has been attracting customers with $10-and-under finds. Think trendy thrift shop meets record store.
Owner and former Advertiser freelance writer Shawn "Speedy" Lopes channeled his love for music and style into an entrepreneurial venture, and now, he says, "I really didn't know what to expect. I didn't know how well it was going to do, so I'm pretty pleased it's been three years."
In celebration of its third year in business, Lopez has organized an in-store party, including electro-dance and drum 'n' bass music by Sisters in Sound members Ms. Angel and Toki, and breakbeat by DJ Monkey. The party also includes free "Stylus Honolulu" T-shirts with a purchase of $25 or more, food and drinks.
