Palama Meat Co. yesterday announced a voluntary recall of kalua pork processed at its Kapolei plant from Aug. 4-7 after testing detected the presence of a bacterium called listeria monocytogenes.

There have been no reports the products being recalled have caused illness, the company said.

The recall affects 101 cases of retail May's Hawaii Kalua Brand Pork — item No. 325466 — sold at Sam's Club and Costco in Hawai'i from Aug. 6 to yesterday and 81 cases of wholesale May's Kalua Brand Pork, item No. 325469, distributed locally.

Consumers may obtain refunds from the point of purchase.
