Fires damage apartment, self-storage center

Firefighters fought two structure fires in Mililani early this morning that were extinguished quickly, the department said.
No one was injured in the blazes that are still under investigation, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Terry Seelig.The first fire broke out at 7:44 a.m. at 95-023 Waihau St. A woman was home at the time and heard the smoke alarm, Seelig said. The fire was confined to one of the units in the duplex and was extinguished by 7:56 a.m. The fire caused $70,000 damage to the structure and about $20,000 to the contents, Seelig said.
The second fire occurred at 9:12 a.m. and was at the Metro Self Storage center in Mililani at 94-1355 Waipio Uka St., Seelig said. It was extinguished at 9:20 a.m.
The fire was confined to one storage area, about 10 feet by 30 feet. It caused $15,000 to the structure and $2,000 to the contents, Seelig said.
The fire was reported by a number of people who said they smelled smoke.
