Hawaiian Telcom reports $30.5M second-quarter loss

Hawaiian Telcom Inc. said today that it lost $30.5 million during the second quarter.
The loss compares to a net profit of $21.4 million in the year earlier period. Revenues, meanwhile, were down 5.1 percent to $115.3 million from second quarter 2007's $121.4 million.
Year-to-date, the state's largest telephone company lost $70.6 million, which compares with a net income of $36.9 million for the first six months of 2007.
"We continue to have our challenges, but we have brought in new leadership and made other significant changes across the organization so we can improve execution, further stabilize the operations and chart a new successful course for the company," said Eric Yeaman, Hawaiian Telcom's chief executive officer.
