Audio: Friday night 'Iolani Palace confrontation

A Friday night incident at 'Iolani Palace involving members of the Kingdom of Hawai'i Nation group included a controversial call by a Honolulu police officer that the incident was "state jurisdiction." Here is an audio clip and transcript of a portion of the incident, using a tape recording by Advertiser reporter Rick Daysog:

Honolulu police officer Y. Chan: Wait, wait. What's going on here?

Reporter Rick Daysog: They work here.

Officer Chan: Who works here? You work here?

Daysog: No, I work for The Advertiser.

Officer Chan: You work for The Advertiser.

Woman (alleged assault victim): I work here.

Police officer: You work at the palace.

Man identifying himself as Norman (allegedly assaulted woman): OK, you like go home? What you like do, Sista? You like leave or stay?

Woman: I don't want to talk to you. Talking to him (indicating officer).

Officer Chan: OK, this is state jurisdiction. Where is DLNR?

Norman: There's no state jurisdiction over hea...

Officer Chan: ...Where's the DLNR officers?

Woman: They haven't come yet.

Officer Chan: They haven't come yet.

Woman second: They assaulted her. I saw it.

Woman: So it is your jurisdiction now.

Officer Chan: ... OK, we're going to call DLNR here.
