Student artwork to be featured at Kahala's Whole Foods store, opening Sept. 10

Advertiser Staff

When Whole Foods Market opens Sept. 10, artwork of more than 50 Hawai'i students (including 20-second graders at Wai'alae Elementary Public Charter School in Kaimuki) will be part of new store.

Each student will be given a 4-inch-by-4-inch tile, to paint his or her favorite fruits and vegetables. Wai'alae Elementary is one of ten schools participating in the Kokua Hawai'i Foundation's 'AINA (Actively Integrating Nutrition and Agriculture) In Schools program, a farm-to-school initiative dedicated to connecting students to a healthier future by teaching them the importance of healthy eating habits, as well as caring for the land.

The Kahala Mall store will carry a variety of local products, including cheeses by Surfing Goat Dairy on Maui, and papaya from Kumu Farms on Moloka'i.
