BEIJING — Maurren Higa Maggi of Brazil has won the gold medal in the women's long jump at the Beijing Olympics.

The world indoors silver medalist led from the first round at 7.04 meters (23 feet, 1¼ inches), and didn't improve that mark on Friday night at the Bird's Nest stadium.

World and Olympic champion Tatyana Lebedeva of Russia, who took silver in the triple jump, got another silver in the long jump, finishing only one centimeter (½ inch) behind on her final attempt.

Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria took bronze.

Carolina Kluft, the three-time world champion and 2004 Athens Olympics heptathlon champion, finished ninth. World indoors champion Naide Gomes didn't qualify for the final, and Lyudmila Blonska was disqualified after failing a doping test.
