However, UH coach Greg McMackin said if Rausch is healthy, he is the starting quarterback.
UH opens its season Saturday against nationally ranked Florida in Gainesville, Fla.
Rausch, a sophomore who transferred from the College of the Desert, was selected as the No. 1 quarterback last week.
Alexander, a junior college transfer from Santa Rosa College, and returnee Inoke Funaki were selected to back up Rausch.
