South Maui fire closes Pi'ilani Highway

A fire first reported at 4:24 pm today continues to burn in the Wailea area of South Maui.
As of 7:00 pm 10 acres were reported burned.
Twelve fire companies and Air One and Air Two were dispatched to the scene. For safety reasons, both helicopters ceased operations at nightfall.
Maui Police evacuated seven homes on Makamae Place. Fire officials believe that flying embers may be the possible cause of minor damages to a house on Puu Hoolai Street.
Piilani Highway between Keonekai Road and Mapu Place is closed. No injuries are reported.
