The state has assumed protective custody of a 2-year-old girl found with burn marks on her legs while police investigate how the child sustained the injuries.
Police questioned the child's mother, 25, but have made no arrest. The case is being investigated as a second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.
The burn marks were discovered Tuesday by a Kane'ohe preschool employee.
Police are also conducting a second-degree assault investigation into injuries to a 5-week-old boy.
The child was treated at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children for a fractured arm Friday at 1 p.m. Police were notified when parents' accounts of how the infant sustained the injury were inconsistent with the medical evaluation. No arrests have been made.
