TODAY'S MUST-SEES
"Private Screenings," 1 p.m., and "Some Like It Hot" (1959), 2 p.m., Turner Classic Movies. TCM focuses on Tony Curtis, who has starred in a rich assortment of great films. At 1 p.m. is Curtis' 1999 interview with Robert Osborne. At 2 p.m. is "Hot," a comedy with wit, heart and a master (Billy Wilder) directing Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. Curtis could be dead serious, as shown in "Sweet Smell of Success" (1957) at 4:15 p.m. and "The Defiant Ones" (1958) at 6 p.m. Still, this day has lots of light stuff, including "Boeing Boeing" (1965) at 11 a.m.
"America's Got Talent," 7 p.m., NBC. Fresh from its Olympic push, this show hopes to dominate ratings for a while. Tonight, 10 more of the 40 acts perform; then viewers vote. That will be repeated next Tuesday and Wednesday as "Talent" pushes toward its Oct. 1 finale.
OF NOTE
Democratic convention, 4 p.m., ABC, CBS, NBC. It's time to meet the vice-presidential candidate. The big networks jump in at 4 p.m., but others are there earlier. Officially, that's noon on CNN, 1 p.m. on MSNBC, 2 p.m. on PBS. Most of those will base shows from the convention floor all day; C-SPAN starts at 11 a.m.
"Clueless" (1995), 4 and 6 p.m., Oxygen. Amy Heckerling skillfully wrote and directed this sweetspirited satire of semi-vacant California teens. She mocks them, yet keeps them likable, especially through Alicia Silverstone's charm.
"Bones," 7 and 8 p.m., Fox. The first rerun centers on the murder of an aspiring pop singer — played, appropriately, by former "American Idol" contestant Ace Young. The second offered a bizarre — and hard-to-believe — twist, amid suspicion that someone in the lab is helping a serial killer.
"Greatest American Dog," 7 p.m., CBS. This show started with a dozen dogs and their people. Tonight, the eighth one is eliminated.
"Criminal Minds," 8 p.m., CBS. Two teens have been killed in a small Texas town.
