Kainoa Fong's first official day of school today is going to be one he won't soon forget.

The Saint Louis seventh-grader has spent the month of August playing for the Waipi'o Little League world champions. He returns to the campus today and at 9:30 a.m. at Mamiya Theatre, Kainoa's schoolmates will greet him with a celebration.

He'll be joined by Sheyne Baniaga, Layson "Kaeo" Aliviado, Vonn Fe'ao and Myron "Kini" Enos — Saint Louis students who were members of the 2005 West O'ahu Little League world championship team.

The 13 players on this year's championship team attend various schools, some of which have made plans to give a heroes' welcome for their newly famous students. Here is a list of some of the planned celebrations, although some school events are still in planning stages:

  • Holy Family Catholic Academy will hold an assembly in its courtyard at 7:45 a.m. today for Pikai Winchester and his little brother, Paliku.

  • Highlands Intermediate will host a parade on the school grounds from 8:15 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow for Matthew Yap, Khade Paris and Jedd Andrade. Following the parade, they will convene in the student government room.

  • Waipahu Intermediate will host a parade on Friday honoring Tanner Tokunaga. He will then be interviewed by the school's TV station.

  • Le Jardin Academy in Kailua is planning a celebration Friday in honor of Ulumano Farm.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann has also announced a parade will be held Monday for the team, though times and route haven't been announced yet.
