Don Ho's Island Grill up for sale

Don Ho's Island Grill in Aloha Tower Marketplace is up for sale, complete with the largest collection of Don Ho memorabilia on public display.

Fred Livingston, who has owned some of Honolulu's best-known eateries over the past 30 years, said he is selling his one remaining restaurant to focus on his real estate investments. The restaurant is known for private parties, live entertainment and its family-oriented menu.

Livingston did not disclose the asking price. The listing agent is Biff Graper with Colliers, Monroe and Friedlander.

Livingston opened Don Ho's Island Grill nearly 10 years ago. Other restaurants at one time owned by Livingston include Matteo's, Trattoria, the Tahitian Lanai, Davey Jones Ribs, the Crouching Lion Inn and Tower Grill.


AG CONFERENCE DEADLINE NEARS

Tomorrow is the deadline to register for 2008 Hawaii Agriculture Conference scheduled for Sept. 4 and 5 at the Hawai'i Convention Center.

The theme for this year's event is "Growing With Intention."

The event will include the 13th Annual Hawaii MIDPAC Horticultural Conference, the Hawaii Food and Agriculture Products Luncheon, and workshops on bioenergy and the future of farming in Hawai'i.

KEEPING HAWAII GREEN AWARDS SET

Local businesses, individuals and organizations that have taken steps to preserve the environment will be honored at the second annual Who's Keeping Hawai'i Green dinner Sept. 18 at Moanalua Gardens.

The event "aims to raise awareness on sustainability issues, inspiring our community to take part in preserving our environment by fostering sustainable behavior in how we live, work and play," according to PacificBasin Communications, which organized the event.

Awardees include: Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority; Hawai'i Regional Cuisine Inc.; Maui Brewing Co.; Styrophobia; Evolution Sage; Unlimited Construction Services Inc.; Philip K. White and Associates and Philpotts & Associates Inc.; Actus Lend Lease LLC; UH Environmental Law Program; Re-Use Hawai'i; Ramsay Taum; Robert King, founder of Pacific Biodiesel Inc.; Cellana, Town & Downtown Restaurants; Muumuu Heaven; Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka'upulehu; and the late John Kelly Jr. (lifetime achievement award). Jack Johnson is this year's celebrity honoree.

MAYOR TO SPEAK AT SEPT. 5 LUNCHEON

Mayor Mufi Hannemann will be the featured speaker at the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Honolulu Board of Realtors luncheon Sept. 5 at the Japanese Cultural Center.

The event will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Manoa Grand Ballroom. The cost is $20 (or $200 for a reserved table of 10).

Hannemann will provide an update on the state of the city, including fiscal constraints and opportunities, issues and challenges, and what the mayor believes are achievements under his administration. He also will discuss the city's role in enhancing business opportunities in the face of a declining economy.
