Olympics: Silver medalist gets life ban for doping

Associated Press

KIEV Ukraine — Olympic heptathlete Lyudmila Blonska of Ukraine received a lifetime ban for a positive doping test after winning the silver medal at the Beijing Games.

The Ukrainian national athletics federation made the decision on Friday, after the 30-year-old Blonska tested positive for the steroid methyltestosterone — her second doping offense.

Blonska, who won silver in the heptathlon at last year's world championships and won the pentathlon at this year's indoor worlds, was expelled from the games and her medal was officially revoked.

Blonska said her husband Sergei Blonsky, who has been her coach for five years, had forced her to take the banned drug. Blonsky was also banned for life.
