Two of Hawai'i's most prestigious hotels announced the appointments of new general managers this week.

Gerald Glennon will take over the top job at the Halekulani hotel after working at the Waikiki landmark for seven years. And on the Big Island, Debi Bishop has been named general manager of the 1,240-room Hilton Waikoloa Village.

Glennon, who joined the Halekulani as executive assistant manager in 2001, will replace Janis Clapoff, according to a news release from Halekulani Corp., which owns and manages the Halekulani and the Waikiki Parc Hotel.

Glennon will oversee all aspects of day-to-day management and operations of the 455-room property.

"Gerald is a seven-year veteran of Halekulani, and in that time he has proven to be an extremely capable executive," said Peter Shaindlin, chief operating officer of Halekulani Corp.

Glennon has nearly three decades of experience in hospitality management.

"I am both honored and humbled to assume the leadership role at Halekulani," Glennon said. "This newest challenge is truly inspirational. I look forward to further perpetuating the high standards and outstanding reputation for service excellence that defines Halekulani."

Before joining Halekulani, Glennon served as general manager of Sofitel Miami, and during the preceding six years, he held the position of executive assistant manager of Sofitel San Francisco. From 1978 through 1987, Glennon served in management positions at various hospitality companies, including Westin Hotels and Amfac Hotels & Resorts.

Glennon holds bachelor's degrees in business and hotel administration from the University of Northern Colorado.

At the Hilton, Bishop brings more than 27 years of experience in both operations and sales and marketing. Most recently, Bishop served as general manager and managing director of Sawgrass Golf Resort & Spa, a Marriott resort in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Bishop also served as vice president of sales for Interstate Hotels & Resorts and worked with MeriStar Hotels & Resorts in several capacities, including vice president of operations and director of operations in Atlanta.

Bishop is a 2005 graduate from the Cornell General Managers Program. She was on the board of directors of the St. Johns County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the St. Johns County Tourism Development Committee during her tenure at Sawgrass Golf Resort & Spa.

A native of Lafayette, Ind., Bishop has moved to the Big Island with her husband, Tom Hollenbeck.
