BOSTON — The Boston Celtics finally got a look at the one that got away.

Greg Oden made his first visit to Boston last night, and the Celtics banged him around and back to the bench with foul trouble before beating the Portland Trail Blazers, 93-78.

"I think he's just raw right now," Celtics forward Paul Pierce said. "He's going to get better. He has a great upside if he just keeps working. ... His only way is up."

The NBA's most-decorated franchise was two decades into its championship drought in 2007 when it went into the draft lottery coveting Oden or second-choice Kevin Durant. The ping pong balls bounced badly and the Celtics wound up with neither, but with their backup plan they acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen and won their unprecedented 17th title.

So there were no regrets in Boston when the Blazers brought Oden and a six-game winning streak to town.

"They're the world champions," said Oden, who had just five points and six rebounds in 18 minutes before fouling out with 3:46 left. "We came in here wanting to see where we're at, and we're not there yet."

Allen scored 19 points, and Rajon Rondo followed his first career triple-double with 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as the Celtics cruised to their 11th straight win — their longest streak since 1985-86. It was the first time the Trail Blazers lost with Oden in the starting lineup since the season opener, when he left scoreless with a sprained right foot after less than 13 minutes.

Garnett had 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Kendrick Perkins had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Boston, which opened a 25-point lead.

LAKERS 106, WIZARDS 104

Kobe Bryant banked in a running 12-foot jumper with 25 seconds left, then went 1 for 2 on foul shots 10 seconds later, as visiting Los Angeles held off Washington when Caron Butler missed a 3-point attempt shortly before the buzzer.

76ERS 96, PISTONS 91

Donyell Marshall hit a 3-pointer for a 90-89 lead with 35 seconds left and Louis Williams made four free throws in the final 19 seconds as visiting Philadelphia, playing without Elton Brand (strained hamstring), beat Detroit.

ROCKETS 131, WARRIORS 112

Yao Ming scored 19 of his season-high 33 points in the fourth quarter, and Ron Artest finished with 28 points as host Houston pounded Golden State, which has lost eight in a row.

NETS 113, TIMBERWOLVES 84

Vince Carter scored 18 points as host New Jersey used a 14-4 third-quarter run to open up a 71-50 lead in routing Minnesota.

MAGIC 98, THUNDER 89

Dwight Howard had 21 points and 23 rebounds for his sixth career game with at least 20 points and 20 boards in leading host Orlando past Oklahoma City.

CAVALIERS 97, PACERS 73

Anderson Varejao scored all 17 of his points in the first half as host Cleveland, despite getting a season-low 11 points from LeBron James, won its seventh straight.

HAWKS 98, KNICKS 95

Marvin Williams scored 18 points, as host Atlanta beat New York, avoiding overtime when the Knicks' Al Harrington missed a last-second 3-pointer.

GRIZZLIES 93, CLIPPERS 81

Rudy Gay scored 25 points in the second half to help host Memphis snap a seven-game slide, while handing Los Angeles its seventh loss in eight games.

BUCKS 101, BOBCATS 96

Michael Redd scored 25 points in his third game back since missing 14 games because of a sprained right ankle and Milwaukee made seven free throws in the final 1:45 to hold off Charlotte.

JAZZ 114, RAPTORS 87

Paul Millsap had 17 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh straight double-double and added a career-high seven assists as host Utah ruined the debut of Toronto interim coach Jay Triano.
