The University of Hawai'i's Keisha Kanekoa was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced yesterday.

The sophomore point guard averaged 18.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.7 steals as the Rainbow Wahine went 2-1 during the week.

For the week, she was 17 of 30 (57 percent) from the field and 19 of 20 (95 percent) from the free-throw line.

TCU is making a habit of knocking off highly ranked opponents and shaking up the Top 25.

For the second time this season, the Horned Frogs beat a No. 3 team in The Associated Press poll when they surprised California, 82-73, on Sunday. TCU, which beat then-No. 3 Maryland in its season opener, moved up to No. 19 in this week's poll.

Meanwhile, Connecticut remained a unanimous choice as the top team yesterday. The Huskies received all 45 first-place votes for the second straight week. North Carolina stayed at No. 2.

Stanford moved up to No. 3, followed by Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

North Carolina's 35-point romp over a ranked team kept the Tar Heels a unanimous No. 1 choice in The Associated Press' college basketball poll yesterday. Ohio State joined the Top 25 following a pair of five-point victories over ranked teams.

The Tar Heels (8-0) dismantled Michigan State, 98-63, at Ford Field last week as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and again received all 72 first-place votes from the national media panel.

Connecticut and Pittsburgh held the second and third spots, while Gonzaga and Oklahoma both moved up one place to fourth and fifth. Texas, Duke, Tennessee, Louisville and Xavier rounded out the top 10.

Ohio State (5-0), which beat Miami and Notre Dame last week, moved in at No. 21.
