The city Department of Emergency Management will be standing by tonight in anticipation of heavy rain that is moving into the Islands and is expected to drench O'ahu and Kaua'i tonight and tomorrow.
John Cummings, with emergency management, said the department had been watching the weather for three days, kept tabs with the National Weather Service and participated with other agencies in a video conference this afternoon about the weather.
"O'ahu and Kaua'i again are the target zone for the severe weather," Cummings said. Staff have been put on standby, he said. "If we go to flash-flood warning or high-wind warning we will automatically bring staff into the office."
The National Weather Service called for windy conditions and frequent showers that may be heavy at times on Kaua'i, with a slight chance of thunderstorms. The O'ahu forecast is for windy conditions and showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight.
Residents on Kaua'i and O'ahu can expect winds from 25 mph to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
Showers, heavy at times, are expected to continue tomorrow along with windy conditions and a slight chance of thunderstorms on Kaua'i and O'ahu.
Maui could see some scattered showers with possible locally heavy rainfall by tomorrow, the weather service said.
