Corded phones available at HawTel

Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Tel is reminding customers that through the end of this month they can still pick up free corded phones that should work even during power outages.

"It's an added layer of security and many folks don't realize their cordless phone or VoIP services requires power to operate," said Ann Nishida, senior manager for Hawaiian Telcom. "With the weather today it's a good time to remind folks to pick up the free phones. The only way they don't won't work is if something affects the telephone service itself."

Nishida said about 100 Hawaiian Tel customers in Kihei on Maui were affected by a power outage this morning, but on Oahu thee were no network-based outages. She added that although the company was experiencing a loss of power at a number of locations, the generators an battery backups were allowing continued service.

To get a free corded phone, bring your residential bill to a Hawaiian Telcom location.
