From 4:30 to 8:30 this morning the fire department had 150 weather related calls with about 120 for flooded conditions, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.
Seelig said while the flooding began in Waianae it quickly spread to Central O'ahu and by 11 a.m. it was islandwide with the department using all of its equipment to respond to emergencies.
People were stranded in automobiles and homes, he said, adding that there had been no dramatic rescues and no serious injuries reported thus far.
About six homes in Kailua, 'Ewa and Saint Louis Heights have lost parts of their roof and there were several reports of downed power lines, he said.
Although 150 calls were logged the department responded to many more requests for help once they arrived at a location, Seelig said.
The department responded to one fire this morning in Kailua on Loho Street. It was called in at 7:48 a.m. and was under control by 8:10 a.m., Seelig said. About one-fourth of the single-story wooden structure was burned, he said, adding that it was not yet clear if the cause of the fire was weather related.
Seelig also reported that a sailboat had broken its mooring and ended up on a jetty off Magic Island. The boat was more than 20 feet long.
